A large American, clipper-built sliip, named the Witch of the Wave, Captsiin Millet, commander, hits recently nrrived in tbo East India Docks, Blackwall, from Canton, having made ono of tho quickest voyages on record. She also brought one of tho moat valuable cargoes of teas thnt perhaps ever entered tho port of London, having on board no fewer than 19,000 chesfs. She is 1,400 tonsburden, nnd was built at Salem, near New York, in the course of last year. Sho proceeded to California, then to Hong Kong, and sailed from Whampoap now Canton on the sth January, made tho passage to Java Head in seven daYs had twelve hours, then had the wind W.S.W. to Jv.W for several days, with light tnvdo wind, and wadoitfoe Cupa in 29, days. Then encountered strong mioYly winds from (ho Western Islands, and look a pilotpft" tho DungencßS on the 4th of April, making a passnge from China to the Downs in VO days— a trip surpassing tho celebrated runs of the Qricntial and Surpiise, American clippers, llnd she not encountered tho strong easterly winds up Channel, bho would Uuvo Accomplished ihe voyngo several days earlier. As it was, sho was only four days boating up from the chops of tho channel to reaching the river, while some of our large vessels woro nearly a fortnight doing the distance. It will be seen that she sailed round the world in ten months and a-lmlf, including loading aud discharging at the above ports. — Not Ih British Mail.
