CHURCH OF ENGLAND MEETINGS IN SYDNEY.

We mentioned in our last, in a summary of Isew South Wales intelligence to the 3rd instant, that the then approaching 1 meeting; of clergy summoned for the 14th, by the Bishop of Sydney, with reference to the proposal for seeking power to organize an ecclesiastical constitution for the colony, had engaged considerable attention amongst churchmen. As the subject is one which at present excites interest here also, it may be acceptable to many of our readers that we should set before them some accounts of the parochial meetings held for previous consideration of the question. We therefore select the following reports from the daily journals, — the Herald and the Empire. It will be seen that the propositions which the Bishop had put forth were investigated — if with a confessed want of extensive or accurate acquaintance with all the points which they directly or remotely involve — still with an earnestness corresponding with their importance, and a determination to exercise the Protestant right of private judgment on their merits. It will also be noticed that Chief Justice Sir Alfred Stephen, and Mr. Justice Dickinson were amongst those who took the most active part in the discussions.
