C R I C KE T.
MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.
A Match was played between eleven of the Auckland Club, and eleven of the Military on Wednesday last. The scores were as follows :—: —
Auckland, Saturday, March 20, 1852. Present : —His Worship the Mayor in the chair ; Aldermen Dignan, O'Neill, Mason, and Powditch; Councillors Abraham, Haultain. Hay, McDonald, Newman, and Taylor. The Minutes of the last Meeting were read and confirmed.
A letter from the Colonial Secretary was read stating that answers to several letters, including that requesting information relative to the Pensioners, could not be given until they had been submitted to the Lieutenant-Governor. A letter was read from the settlers in the Wahu district, describing the badness of the roads in that district. The Report of the Committee of the whole Council on Roads was brought up. It consisted merely of a single sentence, stating that a sum of £0000 would be required for the Town, Suburban, and Rural Roads for the year 1852. Alderman O'Neill brought forward his motion for a Memorial to the Governor-in-Chief, praying the appropriation of £'6000 for the election of a Government House in Auckland. The motion was not seconded. Mr. Newman aslced the opinion of the Council respecting the course to be adopted with respect to the Petition relative to the expenditure incurred in connexion with the Pensioners, seeing that the information necessary to fill up the blanks could not bo obtained from Government. After some discussion it was resolved that the Petition be referred back to the Committee, that they might fill up the blanks with as near an approach to accuracy as they could. In the course of this discussion, Mr. Abraham took occasion to correct a misconception which had got abroad respecting his views on the procuring of a Seal. He had not opposed the procuring of one ; on the contrary, so long ago as the 3rd of December, he had moved that a Seal should be got. But as the Council had refused to do so, be thought that they ought not to be doing other corporate acts. If they would not do this the first act towards properly doing corporate acts, why should they do other corporate acts ? Why not get a Seal \ Alderman Mason gave notice that at the next meeting of Council he would move the adoption of the Report of the Committee of the whole Council on Roads. The Council then adjourned. The Council then adjourned, and Avill meet again this day at three o'clock.
