CATTLE SHOW YESTERDAY.
Tim Auckland and New Ulster Agricultural (Society s Show took place at Newmarket yesterd;i) r , and, we are happy to learn, was in all respects calculated to encourage the efforts of the Society. A greater number of horses, cattle, and sheep were cxibited than on any similar occasion bclore : and a great improvement was visible in the Stock generally, but more especially in the mares reared in the Province. A young bull, also reared here, the property of Mr. I'armer, bore away a double prize. There were more Leicester sheep shown than heretofore, which augurs well, this being the breed most valuable for the rich and productive pastures of the neighbourhood of Auckland, and the most deserving of the breeder's attention. The Show was set off by selections of the best cows from the herds of Mr. Williamson and Mr. Farmer. The Show of Dairy Produce and Corn was not so good as the Society might reasonably have expected. The Prizes awarded by the Judges were as follows : — Stallions, Ist class, Williamson and Crummer. Ditto, 2nd do., bred in the Province, Mr. T. Bray. Ditto, 3rd do., blood, Williamson and Crummer. Odd Fellows Hall. — The foundation stone of the Hall for the use of the Odd Fellows, which is about to be eietledin Queen-street, will be laid on Thursday (to -morrow) by His Worship the Mayor. We understand that the Lodges will assemble at two o'clock in the afternoon, and proceed in procession to the site, being joined on the way by the Common Council, which Body passed a vote on Saturday last accepting an invitation to attend. The ceremony promises to be very interesting. Suicide — Curoner's Inquest. — An inquest was held on Monday at the "Greyhound Inn," Queen-street, before Dr. Davies, Coroner, on the body of Wi'liam Adam Maiben, Surgeon. It appealed from the evidence that for some time, especially since Saturday, deceased had been laboming nnder the fancy that some one intended to destroy him, and other delusions. On Monday morning he told Mrs. Maiben that his head was so bad that he wished her to wiite asking Dr. Thomson to visit him ; but before she had time to do so, he committed the fatal act which terminated his existence. The instrument was a razor, with which he made a wound on the right side of his neck about two inches and a quaiter in length, and so deep as (according to Dr. Dalliston's evidence) to cut though all the main vessels, and thus to produce almost instant death. The Jury found a verdict of Temporary Inslanity. fcgT' We are requested to state that the Musical Programme, published last Wednesday will be petformed, by the Band of the 58th Regiment, on Thursday next, between ihe hours of 3 and 5.
