GOLD CIRCULARS. The present has been rather aneveutful week, occasioned by the icceipt of advices tioin London with assays and accounts sales of the gold shipped per Thomas Aibutlinot and Lady Clatko, which show a lesuit highly i.ivomable and far supeuor to .untiling we e\er anticipated— it wab always supposed to be belter than Oahfuimau gold, 4itd indeed it would icquiie (o be, or some ot the puii'haseiamust have been expending their time and capital toi nothing, at m many instances they have paid for it, including Exchange, the full value ot California gold, but it was neVei expected by the buycii to prove only $of a caiat shoit of pure gold; ami although Mr. Hale, Mr. ii.tinu, and othci jewellus, frequently expiesied their opinion that such would be the case, they weic Heated as men ot too sanguine tempeiamcnt, and consequently not believed ; they wete, howevei, quite conect, and the sluppeis may well congiatulate each othei on the handsome profits they will make. The eftectof this intelligence on the puce heie has been veiy maiked— it lose, notwithstanding, the quantity in the maiket per Miatnrock, tiom 63s to G is, Cjs, Css Od, and was even sold yestei day by auction a» high as 60s 2d.— and heie it Mirely must stop, as a has now attained a puce that will not leave more than a. fair piotit on the capital employed and risk run. Hie specimen sent home by the wiiter proved 1 caiat 1 grain better than standaid, and contained 4 dwts. 12 gra. of silvei per lb., being theielore equal to 23j carat gold. Ihe Atcount Sacs of that sent home by Messis. Smithy Campbell, and Co., in lthc Thomas Arbuthnot, iliow it only 2^ grains in one sample, and •2i grains in another, better than standatd, or eqnal only to a fi action beltei than 22J caiat gold. Inexpenenced pmebasen must not, however, lun away with the idea thnt om gold m its uw state is wotth uioie than standaid gold ; it has to go thioiigh a piotess before lti puiity isasceitained, and the loss in melting is very consideiable, as will be seen by Messri. Smith, Campbell, and Co.'s Account Sales, wheie in one case it lost 14 pel cent., and in the other case 0 per cent — the forinci being miked with quartz, and the latter Hue gold. There aic also to be taken into account, expenses tor melting, refining, assay, biokeiage, height, miuiance, commission, and exchange— so that while at b2s, and exchange 7 per cent., it left i veiy handsome prolit— the lesuit will be fai ditlcieut, at the present price ot 00s 2d, and exchange 8 per cent. 1 deem it right to bung the truth thus piommently forwaid, so that men may not be misled and induced to give a tery high puce, under the impression it will nett the full value of standard gold in London, which is not the case, and which they would iind out, peihaps to their sei ions cost, it not ttuisfoiewamed, In the course ot a few months we shall doubtless have large capital out lrom England, with extensive bujeis mho will be fully piepaied to give within a fraction ot its extieme value, and paities will then find that, if exchange remains at 8 pei cent., there is, not much margin to go beyond 665. 2d. The news from some of our mines this week is not at all encouraging, .aiising from the excessive lam and consequent impossibility of woikmg the claims. At the Tuion they have had, mice oui last, such a stoim as never was pievjously witnessed, destroying, in many instances, tents, ci .idles, goods, tools, and occasioning even loss ot life. Some who had been waiting months to work their bed claims, and had just beg. in to asceitaiu their value, have become so disheaitcned by this tempoiaiy destruction of their hopes, that they have sold out for pikes meiely nominal. Menot greater energy have lett the bed claims for the pieseiit, and are working in the mountains with veiy tair success. Oplur is also in the same state as the Tnion. Mr. White has been compelled to suspend operations at the w atei hole, and very few men aie now employed. A coiibideiable stn has been caused in the town of Bathurst by the discoveiy of gold in its stieets, proving beyond a doubt that some of the streets ot Australia's towus are literally paved with gold. It appears that the soil has been cat ted tioin a place evidently ot aurifeious chaiacter. A public meeting has been held in the town, and measuie* are being taken to prospect m various parts ot the subuibs. The property of Mr. Sutloi also, at Brucedale, near Bathur»t, has been round to contain gold. One dish ot eaith had pioduced 200 specks. At Meioo the mmersweie doing remaikably well. Some new diggings have been discoveied within hve miles, and it is said that one paity obtained £'2000 worth of gold in a few hours. The Braidwood mines continue to prospei. A young man named Yates, lately fiom California, hits intioduced on Majoi's Cicek the method of tunnelling in diy diggings, which bids tair to yield extensively, and is likely to be Lugely imitated, as a considerable number ot claims have been taken up to be woiked on this plan. The most important intelligence from Victoria is he discovery of a nugget of pure gold weighing 271b Ho/. It was obtained in tome new diggings at Mount Alexandei, called the Fnai'sCieek, and was puuhased in Melbourne by Messis. D. and S. Benjamin, ihe escoit last week brought into Melbourne 10,070 ouncei. After hearing that the Tin on and Ophir were under water, we did not expect to receive any gold by escoit this week. Nevertheless, it did airive as usu.il, and biought in fioin Sofrla, 800 07..; Batlmut, 393 oz. ; and Ophn 44 oz. The mails during the week have biought down from Biaiduood 700 oz. ; Bathuist lbO oz. ; Goulbiirn, 13 oz., and Solala, 430 oz , making a total of 2054 oz., worth about £76-25.
