ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE. To the Editor of the New Zealander.
Siit, — My attention has been directed to, and I have read "with much pleasure an advertisement in this day's Southern Cross lelative to a reward of £W0 } offered by live persons, on behalf of the always-enterprising members of our community, for the discovery of gold in the Province of JSJew Ulster. Could not the Local Government also spare another £100 to encourage the good work ? For precedents I would refer them to the Governments of New South Wales, Van Diemen's Land, and Victoria. For some time past matters have been taking the right direction in this province, and if the Colonial Secretary (now acting at the head of aftairs) feels any difficulty on the subject, surely he might confer with other members of the Executive Council on the subject, in the absence of the Lieut.- Governor. I am, Sir, &c, Quartz. Auckland, Jan. 20, 1852.
