A splendid squadron of merchant ships has been at Spithead daring the past week, — the Earl of Ilard■vvicke, for Bombay ; the London, for New York ; the Yimeira, for Sydney ; the Prince of Wales, for Calcutta ; and the Trafalgar, for Madras and Calcutta, — ships vhich no country in the world could match. Another arrived this morning, the Blenheim, for Calcutta. This ship is IG6O tons, builder's measutement, flush decked, built with immense strength and great store of room, calculated tn carry 48 32-pounder long guns, for which armament she is pierced. She is full of cargo, has 40 passengers, and carries out, among other items, six fine hoiserf, one a thoiough-bred, named General .Washington, out of the stud of the late Earl of Albe■inarle, and recently the property of Mi. Gully. WiMi ouch ships «s these the mercantile marine has as little to fear from the competition of the foreigner, as the British man-of-war has from the rivalry of other would-be maritime nations. — Evglith paper, August.
