PROSPECTUS OF THE NEW ZEALAND STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY. The Company is to lie established for the pin pose of iacilitathig and promoting social and commcicidl intei course between the different settlements of the colony. In consequence or the increasing prosperity of the colony at large, it is essential that the obstacles which ior so long a pciiod have existed in effecting communications between the vanous distiicis should be leinoved as speedily as possible ; and the promoleis of this company feel availed, t,hat by no other means can those obstacles be tnoie ceitainly o\eicoine, and the lesouices of the colony moie lapidly and adv.ititai-eously developed, than by the establishment of Steam Communication between the &eveial settlements. With these views, they piopose that a Company shall be established, to be called the " New Zealand Steam Navigation Company." That the place for cairying on the business of the Company sh ill be the Port of Nelson. That the Company shall consist of persons holding shares o( £5 each. That the capital of the Company shall be £ 1 0,000, with power to incic'se it to £ JO,OOO by means of additional shaics. That the deposit on each shaio, to meet preliminaiy expenses, shall be 2s. 6d. That no call shall exceed XI per shave, and that not le&s than three months shall elapse between each call. As it is confidently expected, however that the Nelson Steam Fund will soon be available, auJ the promo' eis have i earon to expect that a piopoiti'in of thi't fund will be pLiccl al their disposal by way of a bonus, it is believed that it will not he necessity to call up the entire amoum of capital, but the peiiods slated for making the calls have been fixed with a view to avoid any risks from delay in the receipt of those Funds by the Board of Trustees. That the alTaiis ot the company shall he managed by a Boaid of Directors in che usual manner. That a proportion, not exceeding of the whole annual profits of the undertaking, shall be appropriated as a leseivc fund, to be oppMeJ in extending and increasing the business of the company. It is contemplated that in the first instance, a regular comivunicalion between all the settlements shall be established by moans of one Iron Steamer not exceeding 230 tons burden, on the sciew propellor piinciple ; and that a smaller similar Vessel not exceeding 60 tons buiden, shall be employed as a tender, and otheiwise as occasion may leqniie. Such are the present purposes of the Company. Its peifect practicability will be apparent on a moment's lefiection, and of its ultimately seeming a large and piofitable business no doubt can be entertained. fehould the pioposal of the promoteis meet with support, it is intended to make application to his Excellency the Govnnor-in- Chief to incoiporate the Company by Chaiter, so as to limit the liability of the Shareholders. In ordci to satisfy L:s Excellency of the practicability of the undertaking, it is desirable that persons who may be disposed to take shaies, should forward their applications as eatly as possible ; and in oider not only to prevent the incurring of preliminaiy expenses, j but also that the public may be satisfied both of the hona fides and respectability of the promoters, it has been resolved that no deposit shall be called for until so many shaies are subscribed for as will be lequiied for the purposes of the Company, and the \iews of His Excellency the Governor-in- Chief, with lespect to the incorpoiation of the Company, shall have been ascertained. In tile meantime, the business of the Company will be conducted at the " Examiner' 1 office, in Nelson. The proposition now made will, it is hoped, be accepted upon the faith of the chaiacter of those by whom it has been suggested, in the belief that they will be thus confemng a gieat boon upon the community.
