A MEETING- of the Friends and supporters of Mr. P. Dignan, will be held at the " White Hart,' on Wednesday evening next, at 8 o'clock precisely, to receive the Report of the Sub-Committee appointed to conduct the canvass. Hadlow, That in our endeavour to secure the return of Mr. Clark to a seat in the Council, we shall not adopt a regular Canvass — but that every Burgess shall be left to the unbiassed exercise of his own judgement. Mr. McKinley moved as an amendment, seconded by Mr. Egan, That the following gentlemen be appointed to canvass the Ward for Mr. Clark, Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Hunt, " Nathan, " Boylan, " McKinley, " Egan, " Hadlow, " M'Leod, " R. Low, " Macfarlane, Dr. Meuben, ' " Hardington, Mr. Coolahan, " Derrom. " Stichbury. Amendment carried. The Meeting then adjourned until 8 o'clock on Thursday Evening.

"nELLOW BURGESSES,— I am sorry to find that Jj from some misunderstanding, or from a prejudicial design of a few, my remarks in the New Zealander of last week have been saddled upon a gentleman, as the author of such remarks, who, 1 can prove by many witnesses were it necessary, knew no more about them until they were brought under his notice in manuscript than the man in the moon. Nor had he any act or part, either directly or indirectly— or any knowledge, hand, or implication in sending them forth to the public, except in compliance with a request from the writer to publish them in his advertising columns; in doing which, I, the responsible party, am only actuated by motives of wishing to perform a public duty towards myself and the Burgesses of the Ward. It is of little consequence, so long as the wiiter confines himself to arguments, instead of resorting to abuse and personalities, who tho author is; for it must be admuted by ercry liberal w\ right thinking man, that
