[Advertisement.] PROPER QUALIFICATION FOR REPRESENTATIVES.
TO THE BURGESSES OF THE WEST WARD.
T7IELLOW BURGESSES,— We shall shortly be Jj called upon to perform a most important duty — to ourselves, and perhaps such as will concern our children also— in voting for a person to represent our interests m the Common Council, and to construct laws for our future local government, — a duty which emphatically demands our most serious attention and caution— and to study and well weigl) the matter over in our minds, instead of making a rash selection. If a voter has done this to his own satisfaction and conviction, he can have no objection of giving in his name at once in favour of the man of his choice ; but if he is at all wavering in his opinion, a careful and a special regard ought to be had in reference to the qualification of the various candidates brought forward. As the future well-being of ourselves and families— our town and district— depend on the manner in which these local legislators discharge their duties, every one is in duty bound to give the subject his best consideration, and use every available means of gaining a thorough knowledge of their abilities, in order, if posMble, to make the best choice— and thereby show to the enemies of th« liberality of the franchise that we duly | appreciate such a right conferred, and thus prevent cause of repentance on our part when too late to be recalled. For roy part, I shall act in accordance with an every day practice in the common concerns of life, analogous to a well-understood guide by every man in all matters of serious import to his present and future private, social, and political interest.
