GENTLEMEN,— Your requisition that I will allow myself to be put m nomination as your representative in the Common Council of the Borough, is this moment put into my hands, and however reluctant I should otherwise be to assume a public position, yet, your generous confidence affects me, and leaves me but one course — to bow to your wishes. I will, at the proper moment, expound to you my political sentiments ; but this much I may now say, that if I am placed at the Council Board I shall strain every nerve I am possessed of to render the Charter granted to us a benefit to you and to our Town.
