The Maukin sailed from Sydney on the 10th instant. During the passage she encountered a heary gale, in which she had her foro-yaid cairied away, her fore and main topsails split, and lost two of her hoises, ono of them being washed overboaid. There weie three brigs signalled as the Maukin was leaving Sydney Heads — one of them supposed to be the Moa. The Cashmere was advertised in the London papers to sail on the 9th of June, for Auckland direct.

Granville EaEitton.—We regret to state that accounts of the nltimely death of this young officer have been received in town. Mr. Egerton was a midshipman on board her Majesty's ship Meander, 44, Captain the Hon. Henry Keppel. The frigate was at California, receiving treasure for conveyance to England. Mr. Egerton ond a party of officers went on a shooting excursion, when Mr. Egerton's gun burst and killed him on the spot. Intelligence ot the afflicting occurrence has been forwarded to the Earl and Countess of Ellesmere, who at the last accounts had sailed from Malta for Sicily, in his lordship's yacht. Mr, Egerton was in his 17th year. — Sydney Herald. Ariiivals raoM Sydnby.— The barque John Potter, which arrived in harbour on Thursday last from Sydney, with about fifty passengers, wa3 boarded almost immediately after she dropped anchor, by several of the Vigilance Committee, who remained thereabout twentyfour hours, making a strict inquiry into the character of these men. The examination proved tatisfactory to the Committee, with the exception of one man, who is now in custody at the committee room, and will be sent back by the first vessel.— Alta California, July 6, i U. S. DrsTRiCT Court.— Hon 0. Hoffman, Jr., presiding. U.S. of America v. ship Margaretta. The ship Margaretta arrived in this poit from China with ninety passengers more than she was entitled to ship accoiding to the laws of the United States, and she was consequently forfeited. The Court appointed two appraisers.— Alia California, June 26, The Harbour Master of San Francisco, had, on the Yih July, published a notice warning all masters of vessels whose arrangements will allow them, to haul from the wharves into the Btream 5 the danger of ships from incendiaries being sojrreat.
