Review of the Market.

In consequence of the continued influx of merchandize, principally from China, the Australian Colonies, and California, the market is even duller than at the date of our lait issue. Money is scarce in consequence of the large quantity of goods that have been forced into the market for cash. Two per cent, per month, with security, is offered. Bread ii in demand, there being ouly a moderate supply in the market. Boots and Shoes. — The market ii in good supply, and there is a large quantity not delivered, in the hands of consignees. Building Matprials are on the decline, the market being stocked from recent arrivals. Cigars. — The market is fully stocked, both with medium Havamis nnd Manilas, Coals.— The market is completely glutted ; but the quantity, about 1000 tons, will be shortly materially diminished, as they are being shipped for ballast. Clothing commands good price*, as also all suit' able articles in dry goods. Drugs and Medicines.— Wt have not quoted, medical men usually importing what they require for their own use. At auctions these articles seldom bring their original cost. Flour.— The price is lower than our last quotation, but the article is more in demand ; the quantity in first hands ia considerably diminished. Hardware, — The market appears to be well supplied frith all description*, excepting a superior article of cutlery. Iron.— •The market is well supplied with common qualities. Wines and Li *uors.— Scarcely any demand for any Wines or Liquors, beat Brandys only excepted. Rom^ialeable at a loir figure. There is a moderate demand tor draught Beer at .B*4o per hogshead. Oils.— Sperm in small quantities. Whale Oil is scarce* Linseed baa again fallen off slightly from former rate*. We note sales at auction of the Utter from&'L 50ta.8'l 75, Provisions.— Vary little from our last quotationi ; the market is tolerably well supplied. Soap is on the rise, a decided preference being showD for Australian. Sugar upon the whole, ii dull ; although loaf sui;ar 89 beginning to be iv demand. Teas.— The market is well supplied. Black tea, if of good quality, will command 50 cts.

Duties payable in coin 5 per cent ad valorem, on all good«, waics, and merchandize, excepting Liquori. On liquors as folloni— Brandy, Rum, Gin, Whukey, Arrack «nd all other distilled bpints, not exceeding 55 pec cent of alcohol, #5 per gallon.

Wines of all desciiption* other thin claict, cordials and liquors not exceeding 27 per cent of alcohol, #1 per gallon. Claret Wines Ale, Porter, Beer, Cider, and all other fermented liquors, cordial", and liquors not exceeding 18 per cent of alcohol, 50 cents per gallon. Claret Wine«, Ale. Porteri Beer, Cider, and all other fermented spirituou* liquon, cordials, and liq-iors exceeding 58 per cent of alcohol, £l per gallon. Distilled spirits, Wines of all descriptions, Ale, Porter, Beer, Cider, and all other fermented liquor*, rordiaK and liquors exceeding 55 per cent of alcohol <i? 10 per gallon, A proposed reduction of the duty on spirits to 4f2 50 per gallon, is to be submitted to the Legislature during the ensuing session.
