The brigantine Packet «ailed from Sydney on the 30th ult., and has had a very tedious passage to this port owing to contrary winds that prevailed throughout. She made the North Cape on Sunday week, but did not reach this harbour until lait Sunday morning. The Pncket is nearly a new vessel. She was built at Prince Edward's Island in 1849, under the direction of her first Owner, Captain Cooper, formerly Speaker of the House of Assembly in that Island, to convey him and his family to California, wheie she arrived in July last. She is built of very strong materials, Bnd copper fastened throughout. She was first sold at California to Auckland ownem, but afterwards changfd hands there, and now belongs to the port of Adelaide. The Alex - ander, ship, 800 tons, waß advertised at Sydney, to sail for Auckland on the sth inst. The Colonist sailed from Newcastle on the 23rd April for London, bnt wns obliged to put in here to be examined, having proved leaky at sea. She has been surveyed, and it was found that the leak was in her topsides, and easily repaired. She is undergoing the requisite caulking, sheathing, &c, and will resume her voyage on Saturday next.
