The brig Maukiu arrived yesteiday, from Sydney the 13tk jnnt. The brig Moa saikd also on the »arne day, having the English mail per Challenger ou board; bhe w.is lighted by Captain Bowden otf the North Cape on Tuesday last. The barque Daniel Webster, and the ship Mary Catherine, had •ailed for Auckland, the former on the 3rd, and the
latter on the Bth imt., with seventy passengers for San Francisco. The barque Regina, Liddel, from the Downs the 27th Nov. ; and the ship Challenger, Withers, from the Downs the 20th December, had arrived at Sydney, the former on the 4di the latter on (he sth inst. The schooner Sir John Franklin, formerly of this port, arrived on the 25th March, from Tahiti, The following is a list, from the Sydney Herald, of the pauengers cleared out at Sydney per the brig Moa :— Mr. and Mrs. Wright, Mr. W. Foster, Mr* Henderson, Mr. Joggar, Mr. and Misi DodiJs , Mr. James Downie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and three children, Mr. and Mis Peters and three children, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert and four children, Mr. William Smith, Mr. Simpson, Miss Luren, Mis» Spain, Mrs. M'Avors. Per Daniel Webster, barque, 296 tons, Captain Jones, for Auckland. Paisengers— Captain Macfarlane, Mrs. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. living and 4 childreu, Mr. James Batolns, Mr. Jamrs Burnei, Mr. Edward Wilkinson, and Mr. Thomai Penny.
Woolwich, December 14, — It is intended to commissiou iv steam vessel for sertice on the New Zealand station, and it is probable one of the iron w»r steamers will be selected for that purpose, a^ it iv not likely that the. will be engaged in warfare which would injure her in that quarter of the world. H.M.S. Fantome, 12, has been commissioned by Commander J. K. Gtnnys, for the New Zealand station.
