NOTICE TO MARINERS.
To the Editors of the Sydney\Morning Hecald. Gentlemen,— The following'partfculars are contained 5n a letter addressed to myiell by Capt. Young, dated Bqtavia, 26th April. 1850, received yesterday. the ship Ajax, bound from Manila to London, at at half-past leveti on the morning of tho 12tli March last, struck on a shoal in the Strait* of Sunda, between Tftwttrt«the-Wuy and B atom lilandt ; the morning was clear, and sun high up, and every object, 10 far at the eye could reach, plain to be seen; Captain Young wai on deck, he had on board three charts of the Straits of Sunda, in all which they down forty to sixty fathoms water, he had been past "and repast with the same chart several times, mid to use his own words, " would a* soon have cxpecte 1 the ship to strike four leagues at sea from Sydney H.-ads at where she did." The Dutch have known of this shoal since 1840: Horslm'gh's Diredons do not mention it. When the vessel struck, Button Inland bore E.S.E., about two miles distant. After thumping about fifteen minutes the vessel came off, they continned the name Eourie about S. by W., set both pumps on, and pumped f r four hours ; there was übove ten feet of water in the hold, it hud fallen calm, and a steamer in sight, to wbich Captain Young applied to tow the vessel on shore, the hawser fouled the steamer's screw, and rendered the iteutner useless; übout four o'clock a b.eeze sprung up, when the officers and crew succeeded in getting the vessel on the bench near Anjer, with fifteen feet water in the hold. The Kite left London for Plymouth, to embark her emigrants, about a week before the Phanician sai'ed, aud would leave for Sydney about the SOthJune.
English Shipping — The Tasmnn, Senator, . and Abberton, from Port Phillip, and the Colonist from Hobart Town, arrived in London on the 12th of Jimp. The Mary Catherine and Ttmar from Sydney, arrived in London, the former On the lGth and the latter on the 18th of June. The Emerald Isle for Sydney, and the Grecian for Adeliide, left Gravesend on the 12ib June ; The Eden for NewZea'and on the Gib, and the ] Cnroline Agnei for Adelaide on the 16th; The K*te : left Graveiend for Plymouth, to embark emigrants, on tha IBth June. The Missioaarybarque John William*, j from the South Sea lilandi, arrived in London, ot( tha 31 it May. The following vends weie advert Wed to leave London for these colonies :— For Sydney ; Agricola, July 1 ; St. Gforge, July 18 < Waterloo and Tamar. July 20. For Lannceston: Stirlingshire, Agoittna, nnd Aden, aboat the Ist July. For IlobartTown: Calcutta, J«ly 10; Windermere, August 1. Port Phillip: Renown, July 1 ; Northumberland, June 26, Navarino, July 1 ; Abberton, July 15; and the Tatman and Senator with <les|>it<:h. For Adelaide : the Trafalgar, June 25 ; Hydaiper, Ju'y 1. The Panama for Adelnide, Port Phillip, and Sydney, was adver tized to leave London about the 10th July, and the James Gibb, from Plymouth for Adelaide and Port Phillip about the 6th Jnly, The Delta 1250 tons, For Adelaide, &0., was to sail on the Ist August. The Britannia was advertiicd to leave London for Portland Buy on the 10th July. The Sir George Seymour, 85 J torn, and the Charlotte Jane, 730 tuns, were to tail for the Canterbury Settlements on the 23 August. TheSalicia, 12 0 tons, June, 30; the Petrel, 1200 ton* 30th August; the Condor, 1500 tons 30th October, were advertised to tail from Liverpool for Adelaide. The Pluebe Dunbar, 704 tons wa» to sail for Canteibury July I. The Agricola advertiied to sail for Sydney direct on the lit July. 'Hie EHzu was te sail for Syd.iey July 28th. The Britannia, Robtoo, entered outwards for Sydney June 20th The Emerald Isle sailed for Sydney about the middle of June.
