The Ahctic Expedition.— The fir-t s ction of'tlie Arctic Expedition, consisting ol the two sailin; ve&teh, the Resolute, Capt. H. T. Austen, CB , and Assistance, Capt. Omai.ncy, left Woolwich on Thursday. The scene as in the Cdbe of the departue of the Investigator and Enterprise, was an eieitiug one, and will long be remembered in connexion with the history of the search of Sir John Franklin. The band of the Dockyard battalion mustered in uniform. The Resolute was first taken in tow by the J.isper ; and as the vestel cast off from her mooring^ the band commenced playing "Should auld acquainiai.ee," followed by " lleai tsof Oak," '" Jeannteiu. and Jtnuinot," " Itule Britannia," &c. The assemble thousands nn mediately gave thiee loud and prolonged cheers, which was swelled by the cicw of the Fi?guard flagship, who had manned the yards. The crew of the Resolute then manned the yards, and in return gave three cheers About a quarter of a hour afterwards the Assistance was laktn in tow by the Advice, and left her moorings
amidst similar demonstrations. Both vessels will lie for some days in Greenhitbe, to complete the shipment of their stores, and to have their compasses adjusted. —Alias 27 April.
