Primitive Methodist Connexion Meeting.

rlher Ihe Public Meeting advertised to be held in the Wesleyan School Room on Friday evening, the 23rd instant, was but thinly attended, on account of the severity of the weather, and the consequent badness of the roads. The Meeting however was of an interesting character, and sever al speeches of solid worth were delivered, and principles advocated, which form the basis of the best interests of society. After singing and prayer, J. Rout, Esq., was called to the chair ; who introduced the object of the Meeting with the catholicity of spirit which distinguishes the enlightened body to which he belongs. The Rev. R. Ward then gave a brief account of the progress and position of the Primitive Methodist Connexion; from which it appeared that the unostentatious labours of that body of christians had effected much good among the working population of Great Britain, and that they bid fair to secure no small influence among the same classes of persons in the colonies. Mr. T S. Porsaitii was called upon to move the first Resolution; —his remarks were appropiiate and interesting :—" That this meeting, considering the future character of the colonies to depend, in a great measure, upon the diffusion of sound scriptural knowledge, and the inculcation of correct moral principles, thinks it highly desirable to encourage and assist Christians of every evangelical denomination to erect places of worship, and form churches in this settlement." This Resolution was seconded by Mr. Vaile, accompanied by some truly Christian remarks. Mr. McKenzie, in an impressive and welltimed speech, moved, " That, believing the Primitive Methodist Connexion to teach the fundamental doctrines of the Christan religion, this Meeting bids them welcome to Auckland, and wishes them success, in the name of the Lord." This Resolution was cordially seconded by Mr. Gardiner. The Rev. R. Ward next addressed the meeting at some length, and moved,—that the Primitive Methodist Society, beg to express, through the medium of this Meeting, their acknowledgement of the Christan Friendship, which has been shown them by members of the different Churches in this town, and that they hereby Nominate the Rev. R. Ward, and Messrs. Kcven, Probert, Canty, and Harris, Trustees of the Chapel and School-house about to be built. Mr. S. Forsaitii seconded the Resolution, which with the two preceding was unanimously approved. The doxology was then sung, and the Meeting concluded with prayers. —Communicated.
