The Duke of Portland will bring andother cargo of distressed needlewomen. The Tory has experienced very heavy weather, and having beed driven to the southward could not make Adelaide, and had to bear up for this port. She brings thirty-two of Mr. Herbet's needlewomen for Ade« laide. The Sarah Ann, Captain Dunnett, was sold at Tahiti to the French Government for the sum of £2000. The Hannah Spargue, only eighteen month 1 ' old, was bought in San Francisco for £1600, and the Arabian for ;£4OO, There were twenty-six sail of vessels entering the bay of San Franciico on thel7ch June, and upwards of four hundred sail lying at anchor.

The Cabet, Julindur, and Susan were waiting for a change of wind.

Lord Athburton, ship, 1009 torn, Forrest, from Liverpool wo Adelaide 28tb ultimo, with 13 passengers; Tory, barqur, 484 torn, Rowe, from London 7th and Plymouth 23rd April, with upwards of 70 passengers, aud 31 needlewom- n ; Dart, brig, 54 tons, Collins, from Sydney 12th ultimo ; Midlothian, barque, 414 tons, Gibson from London via Adelaide 26th ultimo, with 22 passengers ; Countess of of Yarborough, barque, 437 tons, Bennett) from Adelaide 26th ultimo, with 12 paisengeri; Jenny Liud, barque, 484 tons, Taylor, from London via Adelaide 26th ultimo, with 49 passengers* The Diario de Manila reports that a yessel coming from the Island of Batanes to Manila, with the Governor of Batanes, his wife and three children, on board Wht ship- wrecked, and all on board, with the exception of two of the crew, perished.

The splendid new ship A jax, Cipt. Ytrang, belonging to Soames, of London, bound from Manila to tbe lait mentioned port, struck upon a rock in March last, near Toppershudjr, Straits of Sunda, not marked in the old English charts, but plainly laid down in all the Dutch chtrti published for tome years past. Mrs. De Coloma lost every article shd posses* sed ; on her arrival at Batavia the unfortunate lady received much sympathy from the authorities and inhabitants of that city who raised a subscription of 2240 rupees to enable her to produce wearing apparel and to proceed to Europe.'-' Adelaide Tim*s. \< From the St. Helena shipping intelligence we geather that no less than eleven slavers were brought into the harbour of that dependency within a period of seventy days. Among them were four barques, four brigs, a schooner, a felucca, and a steamer. Only three of them bad slaves on board, but these three (brigs) had no lest thon 1840 mirerable beings stowed away under hatches. There was reason to believe the number of vessels engaged in the horrid trafic had lately been increased. The recaptured slaves were to be srnt immediately, under the protection of the British Govern* ment, as free labourers to the West Indies. — South Australian Register. Newly Discovered Island — The following ex« tract from the log of the American ship Montauk, on her passage from Sydney to Shanghai, reports an island not laid down in the charts :— " Tuesday, 27th NoTcmber, 1849 — Noon, in Int. 27*54 north, long. 130*32 east, sawland bearing north-nortb-west, distant 15 to 20 miles, which we took, when first seen, for Bunga'ow Island, laid down on Admiralty charts fos 1847 ; we passed to the southward of this island, which we found extending from Ist. 2735 to 28*40 north, and fiom long. 1293J to 130*25 east. Near the south point was a long reef, stretched seaward four or five miles. The latter apparently was inhabited, as we saw smoke on shore ; centre of island very high, with low land along the coast ; north aud south points both low." — Hongkong 1 Register.
