AN ACT 20 PREFENT THE IMPORTATION OF CONVICTS INTO THIS SIATE.
The People of the State of California, repiesented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: — Sec. 1, No captain or master of any vessel, or any other person or persons shall knowingly or willingly impoit, being or send, or cause or tnocure to be nnjioitcd, brought or Bent, or be aiding or assisting therein, into this Stale, by land or water, any felon, convict or person under sentance of death or transportation, or any other legal disability incurred by a criminal prosecution, except for treason, or who hhall Le delivered or sent to him from any place without tins Mute. Sec. 2. Every person who sh-ill offend against any of the provisions of the preceed ng section, s' all be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment in the countiy jail, for a term not less than three months, an shall forfeit and pay moreover the sum of one lhou<;.-iHd dollars for each of such convicts so imported, brought or gent into (his State ; one half of which pTidity shall go to him r.r her who shall sue or pioseeute lor the same, and the other halt to the country in which buch prosecution shall be had.
