Blasting of tiie Rocks at the Entrance ov Nelson llakbouu. —Since we stated a few weeks a^o tuat iticmpts were making: toiinpiove the entrance to our harbom, by blasting the rocks whu h so greatly narrowed the channel, considerable progress has been made witu the work, though the season of the year for such an undertaking his been the worst that could be chosen. Upwatds of 150 ftet of rock has been •hattcied, and parly removed, which is nearly onehall of what is sought to be achieved. This however incudes fur more than what was originally contemplated, which extended only to the reef running out from Arrow Rock towards the Fifeslure hland ; but in addition to this, another reef will be got rid of, which will give a good passage between the Airow Rock and the main—by which vessels may leave the lmibour when otherwise they would be windbouud. Besides the removal ot this second reef will give more room for a VtSsel to beat through the original channel, which, at the narrowest part, has been ascertained by careful measurement, will exceed si<o feet in width, with the advan age of there being- no hidden dangers. The work is being chiefly done by the Harbour Master and his boat's ciew, assisted by a constable, the men receiving a small additional stipend for their labour; and by proceed n^ in this economical manner, it is believed the whole of this important work may be effected for the insignificant sum of .£ JIOO. Accidbnt. —A httU girl, two yeais of age, named Devaney, lout her life ou Tuesday last, by falling into the diain whi h cirne-i the waste water fiom the Flour Mill under Bridge street into the Maitai liver.
