THE NEW ZEALAND COMPANY'S CONVEYANCES. [From the " Spectator," July 6 ]

We have great pleasure in publishing the roiiowmg extract of a letter irom an absentee land-owner. w!m u contains several sensible and judicioui obseivadons oa the subject ol the Company's conveyances to their purchase is :— " I hud this pleasure a few days ago, ami trust this will reach you by the same mail. Amongit other ma.ters, I requested you to apply (or my conveyances, and sent you powers to that effVct. I have since consulted with several fri nda situated line myself, and have determined not to tiike any conveyances ftooitlK Company at present. It seems to me that the Company's compensation scheme to the land»purchasers, if carried out in its in egrity (it luch a word may be used relating to such joobers) rcquhed that titles should be given iree of cost. I cannot believe that th(ne who obtained the compensation contemplated paying for the boon a heavy ti>x in the hhipo of the Company's lawyers' bills 01 cosr By forcing the 1- nd-purcha?ers to report to the offiws of the Company's lawyer* for an examination of their ti.les, a tax ot und* fined amount is Lid upon them. In ca&es where many transfers hive taken pLce, the examination of a title will cost a g-eat deal ; but this examination ought to be made by the Company, or at all events p*id for by them. I will not submit to be thus taxed. I hold my land by a title derived from the land oraerof the Company. This title is only an equitable one, by > hitii I oelmve lawyers mean, a title which a court ol tquity'wili render perfect and legal; and if obliged by chcum3iauces, I will apply to u court of equity to do so. In the mean, time who cvi gainsay my equitable title ? Nobody but the Company. Will they dare to attack me becsuae I wiil not submit to pay their lawyers (or the Company itself for aught that I know) for cxi mining deeds which would not uquire examination il they had given conveyances at tho time they received the purchasemoney ? I think nut : and tbereioie request (bat you will let my title remain as it is. As at pieseut advised. I will not go to any expense."
