Shipwreck and Loss of Lire on the Coast.— We .ate informed that on Saturday week lust the schooner Maty, Wonging to die Bay of Plenty, was driven on hhore ut Oportike by a North-west gale, and all hands perished. It \s believed thdt only natives were on boaid. The body of one native was. fjuud on the beach on Sunday morning. We observe that the Lord Wm Bentinck, J. Allan, coramanclei, was alverhhed in tht T.mes to sail for Auckland and Wellington, " punctually" on the 20*/* of March.

A large vessel, recenlly arrived at Lherpool from Charente, has brought 2,554' bales of cotton from that French port forming the entire cargo : this may be specially noticed as an instance of the privileges granted by the repeal of the Navigation Laws being made available for the introduction to Europe of the production of another quarter of the globe.— Liverpool Albion. Her Maje ty's ships Teazer ainl Centaur, and the Euby (French), have been engaged m aftiuy with a prcrty of pirates on the coast of Senegal, who had seized a merchant vessel trading on the coast. The pirates escaped. The vebsel was recovered, at the cost of some lives.— lbid The Edward, a new ba r que, leghtered 700 tons, sailed on J liuisdny from Plym nitli tui Port Natal, with 250 emigrants.- — Ibid. Head-money for Pirati'S.— The extravngant rate at which the eaptura oi destruction of pirates is re« warded, is fixed by Act of Parliament, and the operation of this Act was very wide'y extended by the con-, struction put upon it by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in the case of ihe Samarang. The laige claims lately made for the destruction of pirates in the Indian Ocean, has called especial attention to this subject, and we have reason to believe that a Bill to amend the pie«ent Act will be immediately introduced into Parliament.-— Times. Ship-Burning — \uothcr case of ship-burning has orciiued in the harbour of Bombay ; and as usual, the authors of the atiocity have still to be discovered. The DartmouUi, laden with oil, gums and cotton, was about to sail tor London, when a fioe broke out on board of her on the nij^ht of the 7>h of January. As it was lound impossible to quench or suppress the flames, the vesbel was scuttled and the water allowed to rush in— but in vain. 'Ihe flames mounted on deck, and leaped up the rigging, which, together with the masts, was burnt to a cinder. The only clue to the identity of the perpetrators is the fact that all the Seedies made their escape as soon rs the alarm was given. This is the ninth vessel which has been consumed during the last eight years. — F,iend of India.
