Escape op the Pirates from Upolu.— The piratical crew who seized the schooner Helen, were, as will be remembered, captured and confined by order of Mr. Pritchard, Consul of the Navigator Islands at Upolu. The pirates, or at least, those detained on the charge of piracy, were nine in number, two of whom were released from confinement, on account of their pood conduct, and were allowed to roam about the island on their parole. The seven other prisoners were confined and committed to the charge of Me. Elias Hibbs, late of Sydney Gaol. On the evening of the 26th Apiil, shortly after Hibbs had retired to rest, Wilion (the principal ringleader), the carpenter, and three sailois, seized him, and but for the interference of the other two prisoners, would have murdered him. As it was they msiltrente'l Hibbs in the most cruel manner, leaving him in a helpless condition, in fuct they must have believed him to be dead. They then made their escape to the beach, where" they took a whale boat belonging to the English whaler Caroline. From some prer onci ived scheme they obtained sails, oar*, and provision", and with these they put out to sea, and were not heard of afterwards before the Margarf t left Upolu.
