PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency Sir George Grey, X.C.8., Governor-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, and Goveinor of the Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, and Vice Admiral of the same, &c, &c, &c. WHEREAS, by an Ordinance enacted by the Lieulenant-Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, Sess. 8, No. 4, intituled «• The Savings Bank Ordinance" provision was made for the management of all Savings Banks within the Colony which should be proc'aimed to come within the operation of the said recited Ordninace : and whereas a Savings Bank hath been established at New Plymouth, and it is expedient that the said Bank should be brought within the operation of the Savings Bank Ordinance : Now, I, the Governor of the Province of New Ulster, do hereby proclaim and declare that from and after this date the said Savings Bank, to be called the " New Plymouth Savings Bank," shall be deemed and taken to come within the operation of the said recited Ordinance. Given under my Hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of New Ulster, at Auckland, this 3rd day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty. (Signed) G. HIS Excellency the Governor-in-Chief directs the publication, for general information, of the following Despatch, received in reply to Petitions from the European Inhabitants of the district of Auckland, and from various Natives, against the introduction of Exiles or Convicts into New Zealand. By His Excellency's command, Andrew Sinclair, Colonial Secretary. No. 78. Downing-street, 27th November, 1849* SIR — I have the honor to acknowledge your __ despatch, No 84, of the 7th of July last, accompanied by Petitions to Her Majesty from the European Inhabitants of the district of Auckland, and also from various Natives, against the introduction of Hxiles, or Convicts with tickets of leave, into New Zealand I have to inform you that these Petitions have been duly laid before the Queen. I am enabled to state that the wishes of the Petitioners are anticipated, for, as you will have learned from my other despatch, No. 77, of the 26th instant, there is no intention of sending any Convicts to New Zealand.
