Fatal Accident at Onehunga Yesterday.
— We regret to state that Serjeant Whiting, belonging to the company of New Zealand Fencibles under the command of Major Kenny, was drowned at between- ten and eleven o'clock* The mela, neholy event was occasioned by the capsizing of a dingy in which the deceased was coming from a punt ; and took place within fifty yards of the shore. About two o'clock the body was got out of the water, and taken to Mr. George's public house. A subscription was immediately opened for the suddenly bereaved widow, which reached a respectable amount on the spot, as several persons from Auckland happened to be at Onehunga, and, we need not say, willingly lent their aid.
