H. M. Steamer At heron.— H. M. S. Aiheron arrived yesterdciy from New Zealand, after au absence of twelvo montlu. During that interval about 1700 miles of coast have hern mrveyed by her officers, Including part of the Middle Islimd, especially tho vicinity of B inks' Peninsula. A portion of the New Zealand survey, most interesting to the inhabitants of this colony, namely, Cook's Strait, lias übo been completed. To our homeward-bound merchantmen, the publication of a correct chart of this intricate passage must be a great boon. The Acheron made a good passage, having left Auckland on the evening of the 23rd ultimo. She spent two days at the Bay of lalands, and also surveyed en passant the Three Kings Islands. The object of the Acheron* visit to the Naval Depot of the Station is for a supply of stores, and repairs of machinery. It strikes us os not a little remarkable that she should have been able to run a whole year without her engines getting out of order. With the curiosities on board arc two living specimens of the Kuvi, a remarkable winglcis bird, the Apteryx Auslralis of Nuturaliuts.— Sydney Herald, Nov. 2.
