H. M. Steamer, Acheron, a'-rivad on Wednesd y evening from Wellington, hiving siiled from that port on the m-Ut of Saturday Itit. She has b ou?ht an English mail to the4tU June, received at Wellington, pe^ Enterpnss, on the 30th Sept. Althou-h the Acheron 'lid not tail until Satu day night last, the Wellington mail brought by her .in dated Oct. 2, being four days previous Tke Enterprise sailed from the Downs on the 9th June, and nude the voyajje to Wellington in 1 13 diiys. A great portio » of her cargo is lor Auckland, and she was to sail for this poit on yesterday. The Larking, for Otasfo, Wellington, and the other settlements of the M. Z. Company, was to sail from London a few d iys after the Enterprise ; the ship Kdn) w« ateo la d on fo- New Zetland, by the Company, to suil the firat week in July- A ■vessel wa* to be despatched for Auckland, by Willis & Co., to sail early in July. The Colonial brig, Victoria, arrived at Welington on the Ist instant, having touched at New Plymouth on her way from this port. The harque Promise, 446 torn, Hoseafon, from Sydney ; and the ship Inconatant, 500 torn, Cullaton, from Adelaide had arrived, the former on the 3rd and the litter on the 4th iniit. The Inconstant got ashore on entering ths harbour of Port Nicholson, but wis got oft and towed safely in by the Acheron. The following account of the misfortune « g*» en^y tne Independent of the 6th inst :— The ship Inconstant, Captain Cullaton, arrived off the heads (rom Adelaide, on Wednesday last. When on tke passage iome of the crew stmrk work, and on beating m against a strong N. vV. breeze, when under the eastern shore, the Inconstant missed stays, ingoing about, and not having sufficient hands to remi'dy the evil, shednfted stern on to the beach, under the beacon. One of the pilot's boats-crew, (the pilot bomg on board the barque Promise at th>; time, bringing her in,) came into town with the intelligence, and Captain Stokes, with praiseworthy alacrity, hnmediatly got the Stfamer Acheron undsr weigh, and proceeded to the ■pot to render assistance . Daring the night the //* constant was towed off by the Acheron, and on Thursday brought into harbour, making 15 inches of witer per hour. A survey was held upon her yesterdiy, and she is to be hove down to undergo repairs. The Captain, Officers, and Crew of the Acheron are deserting of the h'ghest praise for the prompt and energetic manaer in which assistance was rendered. Ths U.S. Whaling barqu3 Pembroke, reportel by us on the 27th ulr., as having arrived at the Bay of lilandi, (oity days out from Ho»art Town, with two tnni oil, came into harbour on Ttiundiy. Shi is ndvertiied for California. ihcMaukin, brig, having been hove dawn for the lait week or two at Mechanics' Bay, was exa-uitied, and thoroughly repaired, and is now at anchor in the ■♦ream- She hat been taken off the Sydney line, and ii to proceed to California, with timbei , under the comninnd of Captain J. Bowden, formerly of che schooner Kale. The Moa takes her place in the trade betwee his port and Sydney. Capt. Jackson, who commanded the Maukin on her Imt trip from Sydney, has been appointed to the command of the Moa. Ihe new brig Kiwi, lately launched at Kaipara b T Meiiri. Walton, tailed from that port on Tuesday last for Auckland, laden with timber for California. Sh« way be hourly ex^ect-d, and is to proceed on her voyage to San Franciiso in a few days after her arrival here. The Acheron is to proceed to S-.dney to undergo repairs. She will sail for thence in about eight days, ■o at to arrive in time to fall in with the Havannnh there before sh<s sails for this port, which will be about the Ist November.
The ship Waterloo, Neatby, fiom Sydney, arrived home on the 3lst May, all well, after a passage of 104 day* # She had been laid on again for Sydney, «nd would leave London on the SOth July, and Portsmouth on the Ist Augu t.
