Buf one man, we are told, remains upon Bear Creek, who, assisted by several Indians, turns out about forty dollars prr day. At the Dry Diggings, batween Bear Creek and the American, where, during this season, valuable discoveries have been made, a considerable number ate employed, mostly last year miners, the daily average we can snfely set down at twenty-eight dollars each man. The Indians in this quarter are reported quiet, and hopes are entertained that peace may be preserved. The North and Middle Forks remain as reported. In the vicinity of, and upon the rivers flowing into the San Joaquin, most work is probably at present done. The Sanislaus, though very highi continue! to be worked. The mountain cannons are worked by immense numbers, and gold found at the depth of fourteen feet below the surface, we aie credibly informed. Machines are al'Ogether vied. The gold is extracted at unusual depths, from a species of clay, which is of so compact a natuie as to require to remain in water several hours before yielding 'he metal.
