The Despatch.— -This vessel sailed hence for California on the 10th January, and arrived at ber destination on the 25 April, having touched at the Sandwich Wands on her way, where she remained five day*. The barque Eleanor Lancaster, hence the 2ist January, arrived at S u Pranciico oa the Ist April, and having discharged her cargo proceeded to the mouth of the Sacramento River, a distance of 35 miles, where she remained a» a store ship when the sailed ; Cuptain Lodge employing his boats in conveying passengers across and up the river. The biig William Hill, h-nce the 20th Janua-y, arrived at San Francisco on the 21st April, and sailed again for Sydney on the 22nd May ; Captain Macdona'd had been superseded in the command of thii vessel by Mr. Orr, the chief officer. Messrs. E. and W. Hill, Capt. Norris, and Mr. Alfman are pa«sengeri in her. It is ■upposed, however, she is not coming to this port. She had on board letters for several parties in Sydney. The brig Louisa, hence the 3lst January, arrived at San Francisco on the 4th May, and hating discharged her cargo was to sail about the Ist June for Mazatlan, to convey passengers from thence to San Franciico. The Amarican barque Inez, hence the 19th February, arrived at San Francisco on the 7ih May, and remained there when the Despatch sailed. The schooner Plymouth, hence for San Francisco the Bth January, arrived at the Sandwich Islands about the 20th March, discharged ber cargo there, and was sold ; she ssu e " quently proceeded to San Fiancisco, being com<i anded by Mr. Church, previously chief officer. The schooners Eliza und Osprey, from Hoburt Town, had arrived at San Fiancisco ; the former was to sail a few dayi after the Despatch for the Sandwich Islands, Tahiti, and Sydney, the litter for the Sandwich Islands and Hobart Town. The baique Lindsays, hence the 21st January, arrived at the Sandwich Islands on the 22nd April, having sprung a leak on the passage, which compelled her to dif charge a portion of her cargo ; she resumed her voyage about the 30th May. The schooner Deborah, from Sydney and AuckUnd. bound for San Francisco, arrived at the Sandwich Wands on the 21st May, and sailed agin on the 26th. The •chooner Lady Leigh, from Hobart Town, bound tor San Francisco, was lying at Os.hu, Sandwich Mauds, when the Despatch sailed from thence; she had struck en a reef going iuto the harbour, and would have to discharge her cargo to repair the damage she had sustained. There were about e'ghty vessels lying in the harbour of San Francisco when the Despatch sailed ; the crews had all deserted, and in some instances the captains themselves had gone to the diggings. Every man and boy deserted from the vessels which sailed from this prrt ; and in the ca*e of the Louisa, Captain Millton and the supercargo (Mr. Eccleston) had to discharge <-argo themselves, and afterwards were compelled to give 150 dollars ppr monih for seamen to proceed to Mazatlan. The Despatch was worked to the Sandwich Islands by a few men who were returning with their treasure ; but Captain Plant wai compelled to pay a good round sum for their services. He was fortunate euou«h, however, to obtain, at Ouhu, a crew that had been left there by a German whtler, and who had not the means to obtain a passage to California. Among the vessels lying at San Francisco was the brig Richard and William, Captain Brigstock, from China ; •II his crew had deserted, leaving him shipkeeper and everything else. It was found impossible even to retain men on board the American man of-w»r. The Despatch brings up 2865 ounctt of gold dust, and her return cargo, consigned to Messrs. Montifiore, Graham, and Co.— Sydney Herald, Angust 6.
