CALIFORNIA SUPERSEDED.

AFTER several years' expensive and laborious experiments, the advertiser has succeeded in perfecting the art of dissolving Horned Cattle, Sheep, Pigs, &c, so as to extract entirely the tallow of these animals without depriving them of life — an art by which Live Stock will yield an annual return surpassing anything ever before contemplated, offers a new field to the capitalist. As the discoverer cannot follow out his operations extensively, without communicating the secret to several individuals, he is desirous to have a partner or two, who can command a few thousand pounds each. Any Gentleman who may return from California in the present year, will find a most desirable investment for his capital in this interesting and humane pursuit, in which the cruel murder of unoffending animals is avoided; and in which he may enjoy, surrounded by herds and flocks, to which he has given new life, real otium cum J dignitate. After the torture and degradation of mind and body, ininseparable from the acquisition of gold dust, a man's life requires refreshment. It may be noticed that candles, superior to anything yet offered to the world, are being moulded while the beasts of the field are undergoing the delight of being denuded of their irksome burden of fat. Confidential communications, addressed to " Mr. Martin, at the Office of the Society for ihe Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in the Southern Hemisphere," will be attended to. Auckland, 23rd February, 1849.
