Co'onhl Secretary's Offiop, Wellington, 6th November, 1848. His Excellency the Lieutennnt-Gmernor, under the advice at the Executive Council, bus been pleaded to direct the publratio" of the following extract, iclative to the iecent loss of the barque Subraon, from a Report tiiawu up by a Board appointed to enquite into the causes ot tliat unfor'unaie occurrence. By His Excellency's command, ALFRED Domett, Colonial Secretary.

Wellington, Nov. 3r!, 1848. Sir, — In compliance with the directions of his ExciDency the Lieutenant-Governor, contained in your letters of the 28th ult., and tins day's date, requesting <v Boanl to assemble and enoiuie info the conduct of the Pilot on the occa-ion of thp wretk of the Subiaou, whi'e proceeding to se<i under Ins charge— we beg to enclose, for the information of His Excellency, the evidence of the Pilot, Master, and Chief Mute (of the late barque tHibraon) tal.cn befrue us. Having carefu'ly inve tigatud, and duly considered all the f ircmnstaiices of the case, we wauld submit the following opinions, v z. •— Ist. — That the Pilot should nol h/.ve attempted to proceed to sea by Chaff, rs' passage (while the other wai open to him and a Mfi* atichoia^e unJtr I. is lee) undei any but the most picabing occasion, which, in our opinion did not exist. 2nd!y. — That having attempted this passage, he should havu kept more on the weather side, < r nearer to Baitett's reef, and to Inve allowed agi eater distance for tli 1 * ves«el to luve veered or aHohored in the event of missing si ays, to the neglect of which the lois of tne veisel may be mainly attubuted. 3rdly. That having placed the »e«el in a perilous position, he stems to have losi all presence of mind, so utterly essentiul to a Pilot in cxtn me cms of danger, thereby rendering hiimrll totally unfit to us>e his exertions for the suf.-ty o( the vessel. Lastly. —We think it justice to slat.-, thnt after the \eusel was wrecked, the L'bt gave cveij .'S S is,t»uce in landing the jpann-ngers, and affording tnem the accommodation of his house uutil tliej; could return to Wellington. * * * *■ We have the honour to be, Sii, Youi most ob(=d eat servant, Chas. Sha.k.l', Harbour Master, AVilham S. Ltjkk, Master 11.M.5. Fly. W. B. RaodE3, Marchdfit. To tbe Houble. the Colonial Secreiary.

Colo lial Secretary's Office,* Wel'ui;;, i>!> G h November, J S lB. His Excellency the Lieutx-nan'- Governor has been pleased to direct it to be no'ificd that Mr. James Calder has b en lemoned from tLe appointment which he lately held as Pilot foi this Port, nnd that, in oon■equence, applications will be received at Ibis office until Friday, the Ist December next, from pereoi s desirous of offering themselves as candidates toe the ■vacancy. * * * By His Excelk'ncy'fi C'ruu.and, Alfred Domett, Colonial Secretary. The Ralph Bisrnax — This vessel, whifh we nnnounced 1-ist week as having put in h.-re Iciky on her vojage from Sydney to London hid her srem placed on Rfuihire Mmd on Monday last, and (te l^alc, which was found to be under the bow, *nd to ltavu proceeded fr.im bad ci.ulking, w-'S in a few bourfc completely stopped ; on tin 1 . evmingN lidc the vessel was hauled a^aiii into deep water. We know of no poitin New Zealand, nur many of the adjoining coionie->, •where thesime fjciluies exiFt iur repaiu q vessels us in this haibour. The 1 me mid tall of the tide is fiom twelve to se\enteen feet; the water alwa) s perfectly smooth and deep doge to the sliure and a b'aiik with a soft bottom. Seveial vessels have at vauous times been hankd down on the Fite^hin Inland to rej ar an l clean, aud among them Ii.M.S.
