Depasturing Licfnsvs. _, Evruv poison depasluiing cattle on any waste land of the Cioun shall make or cause to be made to, and deposited with the Commissioner oi Crown Lands m the month of Scpicmbei in each year, commencing m Scplcmbei, J B4B, — a return, accouhng to the fomi contained m the Schedule A. hereunto annexed, of all such cattle so depastuied by him on the first day of the said month of September. 2. Theie shall be paid and levied in advance, in each and every year, upon, for, and in respect of all cattle depastured or kept upon any waste lands of the crown the following assessment .—. — For cveiy head of great cattle. . . .cightpencc For every head of small cattle. . . .one penny. 3. These yearly assessments shall be paid by the pei son depasturing stock to the Colonial. Tieasurer, on or before the fiist day of December in every year for the year commencing on the first day of January then next ensuing, the first payment thereof to be made upon the fiist day of December, 1 848. 4. The Commissioner of Crown Lands shall upon the iiist day of Oclobci in every year, commencing on the first day of Octebn, 1848, make an assessment of cattle depastured on Ciown Lands, and shall make a rcpoit theieof to the Colonial Tieasuier in the form, and containing the several particular set foitli in the Schedule B. hereunto annexed, accoidmg to which report the respective yearly assessments shall be payable, and be paid to the Colonial Tieasurer on or befoicthe first day of December in each year. 5. The Commissioner of Croivn Lands shall publish yearly, in the Government G Aztrii:, on or befoie the first day of November, a list of the persons chargeable with the payment of the yeaily assessment, and of the amount payable by each, togethei with a notice warning ihein that such assessment must be paid on or befoie the fust day of December. 0. Upon such asiicssmentbeiiigpaid to the Colonial Tieasurer, he shall thcieupon issue a license authonsing the Stock-holder who lias paid his assessment Id depasture cattle upon the waste lands ot the Ciown dining the ensuing yeai, commencing upon the Ist day of Jaiuwiy then next ensuing. 7. Such boundaries of runs so described as are nol marked by natural boundaries, such as streams, .shall be marked by the occupantsthereof, by lines of marked tiees, by posts placed at intervals, or by some other method which will render them easily discernible. 13. Persons desirous for the future of occupying runs, must m the first place apply to the Surveyor General, and baying obtained from him a certificate to the effect, that such land is the propeity of the Crown, and that no objection exists to their occupation of it, must lodge this certificate with the Commissioner of Crown Lands, who will thereupon notify that the nin is claimed by the holder of the certificate. Any person who shall ha-\e a nm claimed by him, or any part thereof, unoccupied by stock for four months, shall be consideLed as having abandoned such run, or part thereof, which shall thereupon be given into the occupation of the fiist applicant for it. 14. No person shall be entitled to dispute the claim of another person to any run described accoiding to these regulations, unless the matter he brought befoie tin- Commissioner of Crown Lands, within thice months after the publication m the Govuinmiwi 1 Gv/i,iik of the name of the person claiming the run, and of the descnption of the inn. 15. It shall be in the power of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, at any time to make such alterations in the boundaries of luns, as he may, upon enquiry, judge to be just and expedient. 1 6. The Crown reserves to itself the power of, at any time including within a hundred, or disposing by sale of any portion of Crown Land which may be claimed as a run, and held by a licensed occupant. 17. Such sale of a portion of a run will be conducted in accordance with the ordinary rules, regulating the sale of waste lands of the Crown, and the pm chaser of any portion of a run will be entitled to a right of pasturage in the neighbourhood of his station, in the proportion of sixteen head of great cattle or one hundred head of small cattle for every eighty a^res of such purchased land. 1 8. Every occupant of land granted from the Crown and not included in a hundred, will be entitled to the same privilege of running cattle in the same proportion upon the waste lands of the Ciown in his vicinity, excepting in those cases where such waste land are held by other persons as runs, under lease or license from the Government. 19. Such runs as the Government has been in the habit of offering to public competition, or as may possess any peculiar value from being in the immediate vicinity of occupied land, will be, as heretofore, let by public auction, fiom year to year. 20. livery proper facility will he afforded by the Government to persons desirous of purchasing homesteads on their runs, but it will not undertake to suivey and offer for sale any smaller block than fifty acres of land. 21. Return of the number of acres held under Crown Giants are only required, (except in the case of Proclaimed Hundreds,) from parties desirous of occupying denned runs.
