Auckland, Sept. 2nd, 1848.

The Court sat at 10 o'clock, wnen the prisoners convicted on the previous day, were brought to the bar, and His Honor proceeded to pass sentence as follows: You, Jonathan Pel'ett, and you, .Tames Cornwall, have been convicted of the crime of lobbery, by you jointly committed, in feloniously taking certain monies of Daniel Sinclair, from the person of the said Daniel Sinehir, against his will and by violence. The sentence of the Court is, that you, Jonathan Pellett, and you, James Cornwall, be, each of you, tianspoited beyond the seas, to such place as his Excellency the Governor shall appoint, for the teim of Fifteen Yeais. You, Margaret Keardon, have been convicted of pei jury, of pcl jmy in its worst form. Foi the false testimony which you knowingly and deliberately boie, tended to fix the charge of minder upon an innocent man. It is true that you made some small reparation foi your ciime by openly confessing it in the face of the Court at the last Ciiminnl Assize. And the defence Cv'nch was read on your behalf yestei day, contained no denial of your guilt. It was merely an attempt to palliate it, by alleging that you acted under the pres« sure of extreme fear for your own safety. But what ever may have been the evil influences which wrought upon you, cither from without or from within, Uey can form no excuse for so foul a crime as yours. The sentence of the Court is, that you, Margaret Reardon, be transported beyond the seas to such place as his Excellency the Governor shall appoint, for the term of Seven Yeais. You, George Chaplin, have been convicted of an assault upon your wife, Catherine Chaplin, from which she has suffered very serious personal injury. The Juiy have found, however, that you committed the ass mlt under circumstances of extreme provocation, and have therefore recommended you to the meiciful consideration of the Couit. I hope that the light punishment which will now be awarded, will he a sufficient warning to you, and will save you fiomever appealing again at the bar of this Court. The sentence of the Couit is, that you, George Chaplin, be imprisoned in the common gaol of Auckland, for the lenn cf One Calendar Month. You, Chailes Williams, have been convicted of stealing a pistol and certain articles of clothing, of the goods of Edward Green Griffiths. It appears that those goods were taken in the night, and after breaking open a box in which they had been deposited. Fuither, it has been found, that, in the year 1842, you were duly convicted in this Court of a felony. The sentence of the Court is, that you, Charles Williams, he transported beyond the seas to such place as his Excellency the Governor may appoint, for the term of Pifteen Years.
