FRANCE.
The fallen Government had recklessly undertaken public works simultaneously on all points of their territory to satisfy Mid encourage electorial corruption, and had engaged the state for 839,000,000f., of which 404,000,00 0f. were required for the completion of the works. Of the 355,000,000f. paid into the savings tank the late Government had only paid 60,000,000 into the Treasury, and had thus made it impossible to return the deposits on demand. It was generally stated on Thursday, that the circular of M. Ledru Rollin was issued without any consultation with his colleagues, and that M. de Lamartine, M. Dupont (de l'Eurc), and M. Cremieux, had expressed their utmost disapprobation of it. It is said that M. de Cormenin (Timon) would take the place of M ledru Rollin, both as Minister of the Interior and member of the Provisional Government. The JUonU tcur of the same day published a resolution of the Government declaring that the commissions should ' not exercise the power of suspending or dismissing magistrates which was given them by the circular ; and that tuch suspension or dismissal, in circumstances of the most extreme urgency, can only be made by the Minister of Justice, A Proclamation, promised by M. de Lamartine, for Ihe liberty of election, against the circular of M. Ledru Rollin, is published in the journals of Friday morning. It is, most probably, the composition of M. de Lamartine himself, but it is to be donbled if the eloquence of the poet will completely dissipate the alarm created by the more direct and business like tureati of bis lawyer colleague.
