Sm,— l perceive by the recentpapers from the sister colony that the Lieutenant-Governor of Van Diemen'a Land, has given directioni to the Crown Law Officer? to prepare a short Bill, authorising the Collectors of Customs at Hobart Town ami Launceston, to make an allowance in future, on all under-proof spirits, in compliance with a Memorial prepared by the Secretary of the Hobart Town Licensed Victuallers' Society, and numerously signed by the Members and others : and through, the medium of your columns, I beg to suagesfc that the Merchants and Licensed Victuallers of Auckland, should memorialise the GoTemment for a similar conceision. Ai the Customs' authorities exact duty upon overproof, it is but equitable that )hey should allow for underpioof. Iris. Auckland, 24th Aug., 1848.
