Wr have been favouied Avith the following authentic details of the transactions, dining the first six months of its establishment, of the Auckland Branch of the Union Bank of Austral in. In the absence of an act of Council, which, in Aubli.iliu, renders the quaileily publication of the assets and liabilities of the several Banks imperative, the following facts may be inleicsting to our readeis,
The amount of the daily balances iti the Bank, belonging to the public, exceed £17,000. And the total amount of transactions between the public and the bank, is upwards of a quarter of a million.
Nrcw Postage Reguiation. — The Post Office authotities heie have received instructions from his Lordship the Postmaster General not to collect any postage upon letters and newspapers aent from New Zealand to the United Kingdom dikkct. Letters therefore have been forwarded by H.M.S. Calliopr, and will also be forwrded by the City of Poonah, free of po.stage, and no extra charge will he made in England in consequence of the non-payment of postage here.
