Colonial-built Vesbbls.-— The arrivals in our port furnMi proof, almost daily, of the supeiioiity m sailing of vessels built both in the Dei went and Tamar, i and our northern contemporaries frequently announce " rapid trips" made by the traders in cattle and merchandise to the neighbouring colonies. Several splendid ships are now on the stocks in the yards around Bat- I tcry Point, furnishing employ to a great number of mechanics. One inpreJis-it of usefulness and elegance in colonial-built vewls Ins scaiceiy been yet noticed —the superiouty of the lluon Pine for cabin fittings and furniture. Api oof of the excellence of this beautiful wood for 6uch purposes has been recently afforded in the cabin of The fair T(ii»iania?t. Thia vessel was much injured by lire a few weeks ago, and had to be scuttled and remain under water for several days. The cabins were nearly completed by Mr William Brown (entirely vmh colonial wood,) nt the time of the acndent. The panelling and rarved caps were of Iluja I Pine, with lightwood palasters, all bearing the highest i polish, and ornamented with guilt mouldings. The two beautiful woods present a strong contrast in variety of eolouimtf, 1 and notwithstanding the several days' immci sion under water, these portions of the ' cabin fittings winch had been completed were but little damaged. The injury done to the vessel has been re(idiied, and sli- is now nearly ready for »ea. "We hear she is intended for the New Zealand trade. — JJobart Town Cow icr.
