(From the South African Advertiser, Ma) eh 11 1848 ) The following will be read with profound sympathy, i.ot only Ooni the melancholy fate of two excellent young officers of great promise, but from the high 'espect universally entertained here for Admiral Daeres on whose family this inepirable calamity has fallen. His Excellency, Sir Hnny Smith, hnppcnrrl to be at Simon's Bay, on Wednesday, when this afflicting intcllience reached the Admiral, and the generous feeing of the one, with the noble firmness of the bereaved l.i'hcr, arc mentioned as being tho most ailecling sight ever witnessed :— " We have just received Hie following most painful intelipence. Admiral Dacres' only son, Commander James Richard Dacres, of Her Majesty 'a sloop Nimrod ami Lieut. George J. Loch, of the 6ame vesiel, went lately on shore, at Quilimane, in the Mozambique, where they unfortunately remained during the night, sleeping with the windows of their bed-room open. — The following morning they relumed on board, apparently quite well, but twelve houia afterwards weie liotli seized with that dangerous malady, the " Coast Fever," which in tin* coujsc of a lew days terminated jatally thus depriving the service of two most amial)le, excellent promising young officeis —and plunging Uieir families into the deepest affliction.
