To the Editor of the New Zealander. Sir,— ln your paper of Wednesday last, there is a statement that the commander of the Wig rams " declined taking a pilot." This I beg to say, is incorrect, since no pilot offered ; 38 I had learnt from commanders of ships who had been here before, that there was no pilot at Auckland, there was no signal hoisted I for one. The boat which I afterwards found to be the pilot's boat, was to leeward of me, and I bore up within hail, but finding lie did not hail me, I took it for a man of war's boat. I am, &c., &c. W. Parfitt, Master of Ship Wigrams. March 31st, 1848. [We still hold to the correctness of the statement |in last Wednesday's paper. We are at a loss to conceive what commanders of ships that had been here before could have told Capt. Farfitt that there was no pilotjin the harbour, — a piece of deception that must have been intentional on their par* ,- —or how Capt. Paifitt himself could have mistaken a pilot's boat, with the pilot's, flag flying in her, and only thiee men on board, for n man-of-war's boat.— Ed. N. Z]
