WOOL SALES.
The following is copied from Messrs. J. T. Simes & Co., Circular of the Bth November. The series of Colonial Wool Sales, commencing on the 2Ut alt., was brought to a determination this day, and as nearly as can be ascertained the quantity offered consisted of— 13.129 Belesof Australian Wool 1,189 " Van Diemen's Land " 6 4505" Port Phillip and? b'4dot"b ' 4d0 t" Portland Bay J 182 " Swan River " U " New Zealand " 205 " South Australian " 4,085 " Cape 22,311 842 " East India " 23,156 Bales. Soon after the commencement it was found impracticable in the present general pressure of monetary «iffairs, and the consequent circumscribed means of the buyers, to dispose of the whole quantity ndvertised for sale even the serious reduction which had been submitted to, and the latter sales extending fro in the 9th to the 16th inst, were withdrawn,— the beneficial effects of so necessary a measure were immediately frit, and the sales proceeded with a more healthy tone at a slight improvement in price, although we le^ret to state that the prices obt&ined throughout have been most unsatikfac ory.
The " Maukin " and <' Cheerful," the latter from this poit on the Ist, and the former on the 2nd inst., arrived at Sydney on the 10th, and were to sail a few days after the " Debouih " The bri^ " Louisa," 182 tons, Cuptain iVlillton, and the ship •' Hyderabad," 81U tons, Captain Castle, were also laid on for Auckland direct, to sail in a few fa) a.
The Wigrams, barque, with a cargo of cattle from Newcastle, arrived yesterday morning. Her commander, although a stranger lo the port, declined to avail himself of the services of the pilot ; and consequently in beating up the harbour against a strong head wind aivt ebbing tide, got his ship aground in Mechanics' Bay; but as she is lying on the mud flat, she is not likely to sustain damage, and most probably will be got afloat with this morning's tide.
