Sir,— Will you have ,the kindness to give notice, through the medium of your paper, that a public meet* ing will be held in the Mechanic* Institute on'Wedneidty next, at lla. m., to appoint a Deputation to convey the Petition to hU Excellency the Governor to be forwarded to Her Majesty, tht Queen. I beg to remain, lir, youri, respectfully, J. NEWMAN. Remuera, 16th Dec* 1817. N. B.— There are about 400 aignatures attached, and if it had been properly taken round, more would be added. Nearly all the respectable non>officialt ha« c given their nupport to iti prayer, and no petition could be more generally received. — J. N. '
