Intelligence reached <own this nftcrnoon of the discovery of (he remains of a white female and child, at the place calk d Jemmy's Point situated on the Lank of one of the Gippa L,nd luke., and about four miles Irora theiesideuce nf Mr. Tyres. There can be no doubt that this is the uuforfutuuo womun whom the genferous public »f the province have already endenvouied to icjcue from her wiuu.li■cd and horriole fute ; in whohe nid two, expeditions) were started, but uubUcceßslu). This is the victim of savage captivity and violtnca iv whoie behulfwu oftßn Juid the inehucho\y pleasure of »p|ieulingto the sympa'hies of ihe benevolent |>uij.

lie, for which we were treated to a due share of the spiteful malignity of one of our contemporaries, who in the month of April last actually sHfled all the finer feeling! of humanity, and to wreak hit small yengeance upon us, so far prostituted his pen and his firm belief as to designate the whole matter " the joke oft few waggish settlers 1" The *' joke has at length turned to be a serious one ; the bodies of the hapless woman and her child have been discovered under circumstances which allow no room for doubt to dwell in the mind of even the most sceptical, that she did really exist and lingered through a revolting bondage of several years, and has been at If ngth murdered to satisfy the fieud jealousy of one of her black tyranti. Death though regarded as a mishap by others, must hare descended as a blessing upon this popr woman who has undergone a trial far more barrowing and terrible than even Death's wont moment!. She is now no more— and it is t melancholy gratification that the public suspense has been at length relieved, by her dUcovery even in death. Ourselves never for a moment doubted her existence. Bis Honor the Superintendent always continued under a similar impression. Let those who purposely attempted to mislead the public, an J deter them from the consummation of a glorious work of mercy, now settle the matter in their own breasts. The following statement of the affair has been comnmnicated to us by a Mr. David Campbell, who arrived to-day, overland, from the station of Mr.M'MiUanj — On Friday last, ( this day werk ), a courier brought a letter from Eagle Point the residence of Mr. Commissioner Tyers, to Mr. M'Millan requesting him t« proceed to the latter place, for the purpose of holding an inquest' upon the remains of a white woman and child, which where found at a place called Jemmy'i Point, contiguous to the Lakes, who were supposed to have been murdered by the blacks. Mr. M'Millan accordingly started for Eagle Point, where the inquest was held on the following day (Saturday) Mr. M«c Millan returned on ihe Sunday evening, and stated to our informant that the inquest had been duly held on the bodies — that' there could not he an atom of doubt of one of them being that of a white female, which was easily evident from her head— that Mr. Tyers had collected all the official information he could upon the point, which would be duly forwarded in a few days to his Honor the Superiatendant, and further* that the bodies were to be decently interred the following day ( Monday, ) upon which occasion a number of the neighbouring settlers had signified their intention of being present. Our informant alio communicates that he heard from a shepherd that some short time ago the captive white woman, after the arrest of fiungelene, passed into the possesion of his brother; after which be and another savage quarrelled about her, and the latter, having fought with the former, was victorious, when according to barbarian custom she in turn became the lubra of the conqueror. Bungelene's brother, brooding oter the loss of his white prize, meditated a deed of vengeance, and resolved that his rival should not long enjoy her. Accordingly, laying in wait one night, he vtatohed for a favorable opportunity, and murdered the woman and her child. I Since learning the above, we addressed a note to his Honor the Superintendent on the subject, to which the following reply has been received— The only intelligence which it is in the power of Mr. La Trobe to give the Chairman of the Gipps Land I Expedition Committee, with respect to the subject of his note, ts, that a hasty note from Mr Walsh, of the Native Police, addressed to Mr. Dana, states, "That one of the Native troopers (Tommy) has found the (apptreatly murdered) remains of tie White Woman on the aide of the lake near Mr. Tyers' station, and that Mr. Tyers had gone down to investigate the affair." This is, word for word, all that has reached me. So far only we have yet heard of the lamentable affair ; but as a couple of days will in all probability place ns in possession of fuller particulars, we shall lose no time in laying them before the public
