TROOPS FOR THE WEST INDIES.
Malta, January 11, IS47.—The Heiefordshire, transport, having on board the 88th Regiment, sails on the 13th instant for the West Indies. [It appears that the annual mortality among 1,000 joung men, under thirty years of age, in Great Britain, isfifleen. 2. The deaths among 1,000 British soldiers, stationed in the Windward and Leeward Islands, are eiyhtyfice annually. 3. And in the Jamaica garrisons, one-hundred and forty three deaths per thousand annually. 4. The British soldiers that have perished by sickness in thb Windward and Leeward command viz., Barhadoes,Trinidad, &c,since 1817, are upwards of 10,381. 5. And in Jamaica, diHng the same period, 11,040. Total, 21,421 soldiers who have died in the West Indies since 18l7,mostl) natives of Biitain, and under thirty years of age I!
