Original Correspondence.

To the Editor of the New Zealander. Sir,— l shall feel obliged if you will insert in your next paper the enclosed letter addressed to the Trustees, of the Auckland Savings' Bank, winch was delivued toMr. Montcfiore (one of the Trustees) on the afternoon of Saturday last (29th May), but which I find from your "Wednesday's journal has been taken no notice of, since I perceive my name again published as one of the Trjustees. I must observe that though I highly approve of such Institutions when the government is responsible for the deposits, yet my important and multiplied duties and the regulations of a Catholic Priest would not. permit me to be in any way connected with such aa undertaking. I am, &c, T. Forest. Chapel House, Auckland, June 4-, 1847.

(Copy.) Chapel House, Auckland, *"> May 29th, 1847. Gentlemen, — In lbqWhg over a Pamphlet addressed* to the Natives on Savings' Bank, I was surprised to see my name among others as a Trustee or Director. I stated in my reply to a letter I received requesting my approval of the proposed Bank, that if the Government were responsible for the deposits, I should highly approve of it, but it is not customary for Catholic Priests* to engage in any business of the sort. Therefore, I trust, you will not publish my name as in any way connected with the said Bank. I am, gentlemen, your obedient servant, T. Forest. To the Trustees of the Auckland Savings' Bank. [We regret that Mr. Forest's name should have been, so inserted, but the mistake, or blame, rests with us— not with the Trustees.— Publislier N. Z.~\
