THE WHITE WOMAN IN GIPPS LAND.
His Honor Mr. Lv Trobe has strenuously recommended to His Excellency Sir Charles FitzRoy, that an expedition be sent to Gipps Land, and no expense spaied in recovering the white woman from the worse Ihan death captivity in which she is at present placed. His Honor has also written to the Committee of Management of the lateevpedition requesting their co-operation ; it being however distinctly understood, that the expedition was to be under the control of the Government, headed by Mr. Tjere, and Serjeant Windridge, leader, and as many of the late volunteers as please. — Melbourne Argus, March 5. This morning Serjeant Windriilge, the two Worrigals, the two Western Port blacks, lately with Mr D. Villiers,) proceed overland to Gipps Land, to join the foice which the government parly, under the order of Mr. T)ers are rapidly forming to lescue the white woman. The following men v» ho were on the fiist expedition, also pioceed to Port Albert in the Elisabeth, for the same purpose : — John Dingle, Thomas Hill, William Peters, Richard Hartnett, Donald M'Leod. Serjeant Windridge, it is supposed, will be selected by Mr. Tjers to lead the whole of the party, which altogether will amount to twenty-fivs men, chiefly whites. With the assistance thus sent to the rescue, there can be no doubt of the party proving successful. — Melbourne Herald, March 4.
