WELLINGTON.

V>\ the arrival of the Deborah, from Pojt Nicholson, we have Wellington papers to Satur, day last. Every thing appears to be going on quietly iv the South, and the presence of the Governor amongst the settlers has dispelled the gloomy forebodings that were accumulating by ilic anticipations of a New Zealand Company's Proprietary Government. The Supreme C6uit sat on the Ist of March. The only trial of importance was that of William Kreulcil, carpenter of the German whaler Hunsa, who was indicted for the minder of the third male of that vessel, at Port Levi, on the 30th December last. Although the evidence against him was clear, yet the prisoner was acquitted by order of the Judge, in consequence of his Christian name not being proved io correspond with that in the indictment. The Governor, on his way toTaranaki, had landed at Waikanae. His Excellency remained some time on shore, and visited the Native Chapel ; he also inspected the party of police stationed there. The Independent has an excellent article addressed "to the Directors of the New Zealand Company," upon the subject of their Tvrentj - first Report, which we shall publish in our next week's number.
