Like Master mkj: Man. — Colonel Dickson, when lie commanded ihe 42nd regt, was one day superintending the punishment of an old soldier, who had been sentenced to receive corporal punishment in consequence of being, as he said, a wee/uu. The man complained much under the infliction, and bfgged frequently to be taken down ; but the Colonel showed no disposition to remit any part of the sentence- "Oh, Colonel," exclaimed the culprit, making another appeal to his commander's humanity, "take me down, Colone l; for, ye ken, I'm just a puir attid druclccn body liku yoursel." The justice of this remark was universally admitted, and military discipline could hardly restrain ihe risable faculties of officers and men.— -Marshall on the condition of soldiers.
