rTTNTi'n.AL OBSERVATIONS Although the weather of New Zealand is frequently wet and boisterous, especially during the Winter months, yet the temperature is remarkably even, and the climate at all seasons ex,Y , ,1r'7."7, 1 r'7."7 Durinff the very dry weather of November and December, 1846, the mercury in the Thermometer stood sometimes as high as 89 ° in the shade; but it is very rarely higher than 7G °in the shade in Summer falling to about 60° at night; and in Winter it is seldom so low as the freezing point at night, and usually rises to about 55° in the day time. The most unsettled weather may be looked for at the time of the Moon's fall and change. . . . , ..,.

For several days easterly gales accompanied with rain. Many days pleasant and dry weather. Strong south west winds prevailed. Many days dry, but several days were very rainy during easteily gales.
