Notice to Mastbis of Vessels intending to pass through Torres Straits. — His Excellency the Governor of New South Wales desires to make it known to all masters of vessels proceeding from Sydney to Torres Straits, that it is intended to forward, by the Enchantress, for the purpose of being placed on Booby Island, a further quantity of bread fresh water, meat, and spirits, as a provision for shipwrecked seamen who may seek refuge on that Island ; and his Excellenry earnestly invites masters who may visit Booby Island, afterhaviugsuccesslully )>a&sed the Straits, to make, from time to time such additions to the store which was originally established l>y Captain Blackwood, of the Royal Navy, as may suffice to keep up a constant supply of provisions on theJsland. New Discovery of Islands in Torres Straits. "-The following is, au extract from the log of the schooner Frolic, Captain Pilfold, relative to some islands which that vessel fell in with alter leaving Chillcott Island :■— " September 7, 1845. At G p m., sighted an island with detached reels, not laid down in any charts, which Captain Pilford named Frolic Island. At 6AO p. t in. shortened sail and hauled to the wind, and tacked alternately through the night At f» 30 a. in., saw' the island, bearing north seven miles ; and 6a - ">• saw another island bearing north north-west, ttiree .leagues; the s<\uth island, beariu^ ■west by south three injles. At 730 a. ra. the north island bearing east three-quarter north, four miles, saw patches of reefs extending north-north-west, as far as the eye conld reach fioni the masthead. The latitude by observation of northernmost island was 16 23 south, and the Jongitude 149 58 east."
